How we did it
Three large residential projects as part of a substantial scheme near Finsbury Park in London’s Hackney area
These projects were completed in 2012 (KS2), 2013 (KS5), 2014 (Block E).
Project KS2 had some very interesting feature panelling to the balconies of the flats. Elite are keen to offer a bespoke solution to meet the clients / architect’s aesthetic requirements.
These panels were constructed from 3mm powder coated aluminium sheet which were CAD/CAM punched out with a leaf pattern to form a woodland design. They were installed in front of a composite panelled opening window and provided security and ventilation.
Another feature of the client requirements was to comply with a Lifetime Homes specification. This meant that the window handles could be no greater than 1.2m from the finished floor for disabled use. We had to engineer a special opening gear configuration within the turn-in window to enable the handle to be moved from the side, to the base of the sash, whilst maintaining the multi point locking feature and weather rating. We worked closely with our appointed hardware specialist VBH to configure ROTO hardware and this proved to be very successful.
Key challenges
Develop a suitable prototype panel with our appointed fabrication specialist and follow through to inception.
Develop a new type of opening window from off-the-shelf proprietary systems.
